Almost Edna

My name is Erin. My parents almost named me Edna. I'm glad they didn't. No offense to any Edna's out there. I guess the point of this is talking about how I like books and music.
Well Coachella was outstanding. I could wax poetic about M83 (fantastic), Radiohead (Thom Yorke’s ponytail!), Miike Snow (tremendous), Flying Lotus (dope), Martin Solveig (fun as hell) and comment on how creepy Tupac’s hologram was (so upsetting and confusing) but I really want to talk about how impressed I was with the organization and the cleanliness of the festival itself. I was pretty amazed at how well 80-85,000 people were herded and kept under control despite all the alcohol and other substances that were consumed by the majority of festival goers. Big ups to all of the people who worked hard to corral, secure, direct, and generally assist with making the festival a massively enjoyable time. With the exception of some hippie falling off of a bamboo sculpture that he unwisely climbed whilst under the influence and some people that were worse for wear due to too much fun, I didn’t see anything too gnarly. Then again, I only witnessed a fraction of the action but all I know is that I had a wonderful time and I’m already planning for 2k13. I really hope it’s warmer next year. (Taken with instagram)

New Grooves: Virgin Magnetic Material

Virgin Magnetic Material is a remix project out of Tel Aviv, Israel headed up by Shai Vardi. Dude is killin’ it. His song choices are pretty much pulled out of my brain and then infused with breezy beats. There’s a lot to peruse and I’ll probably have a new favorite tomorrow but right now I am looping the remix of “Make it Wit Chu” by Queens of the Stone Age. Lemme tell ya, it’s some seriously sexy stuff. Listen to everything by him IMMEDIATELY.  http://soundcloud.com/virginmagneticmaterial

reader’s digest - winter edition

Damn. I got really distracted the past few months and I read a bunch of books that weren’t on my Fall Reading List.* Therefore, I have a lot of catch up reading to do this winter. No problem, because winter sucks balls and the only thing I want to do is snuggle up with a hot toddy and a book anyway. So without further ado, here’s the self imposed Winter Reading List.

*Bonus Round - These are the books that distracted me from my Fall Reading List:

2012 Theme Song: LCD Soundsystem - Live Alone (Franz Ferdinand Cover)

I know this song was released back in April for Record Store Day 2011 but the video just came out and therefore it’s new again and kismet-esque in its relevance to my current life situation. I am going to be living alone in 2012 and this is going to be my theme song. It’s just an amazing song and a perfect cover. I love you, James Murphy.
